I started physical therapy and occupational therapy this week, and I’m so excited. I’ve been in this bed far too much for far too long.
I’m screaming to get out and about now that it’s Spring, so I estimate the timing is perfect.
Basically, I suffer from a lack of confidence getting around after falling and my anxiety about falls has led to me being inactive and depressed, and all of that leads to deconditioning which fuels more anxiety because I don’t trust my muscles.
It’s a vicious cycle that I’m eager to break.
So the plan is that I will have in-home therapy 4 days a week for six weeks, 2 alternating days of PT and OT Monday through Thursday.
I had my first full session of PT on Friday this week. It’s all happening much quicker than estimated, which is great because there hasn’t been a lot of time for me to psych myself out by overthinking and feeding the anxiety monster.
For my first goal, I’d like to be able to brush my teeth standing up again. (Yes, it’s gotten that bad.) To achieve that takes time. Right now my homework, which I have been completing dutifully, is to sit up for 2 hours a day.
It may not sound like much but let me tell you it’s a lot for this disabled human. I hurt in an accomplished way though, and I’m determined to be able to do more for myself. Eventually.
After just one day of PT and a couple days of homework, I feel kind of amazing. My right foot has been turned inward and immobile for a year, and I’m hyperextending my knees and leaning forward to compensate for the imbalance.
Just having someone tell me that has made me a lot more mindful of how I can correct it.
In other news, I also got a fantastic mug this week from a friend. Its from Little Eden Pottery.

My left handed writing practice continues and I got a new stencil for making Zentangles that I will write about as soon as I am able.
That’s all for now. Hope you’re having a great weekend.
Glad to hear you’re moving in a positive direction!! Keep going!!
Glad you enjoy the mug! Take care Emily.
